It’s been pretty much a decade in the show’s timeline and yet still, in her darkest moments, Ed’s words echo in the back of her mind, telling her that she still can’t really do anything right, that she’s stupid, etc. And having seen proof of the mental scars he left behind, so much can be inferred about the relationships we’ve seen Carol have since then. How she is the one who is undoubtedly in control and only gives so much of herself before putting up her walls and hiding behind a mask. It gives context as to why she has not allowed herself to be vulnerable, or to have a relationship with someone who truly knows her, especially when you combine that with her fear of loving and losing people. Obviously I hate that she still hears Ed’s words, but man, I do appreciate this kind of in depth focus on Carol’s character and her past. April 05, 2020 at 01:34AM
