TWD 10x21 “Diverged” arabian-bloodstream: There are much better, longer more detailed takes on this episode elsewhere on other more dedicated Caryl blogs than this, but I did want to share a few thoughts. I loved this episode completely. However, I am not even remotely surprised that all but die-hard Carol stans and still-patient Caryl fans who understand that during these extra episodes we weren’t going to see movement in their relationship beyond where we were at the end of the official season 10 status. Where I’m at with “Diverged” is frankly shocked. Truly and deeply shocked that it was conceived, given the go-ahead, written, filmed and made it all the way to our screens. Don’t get me wrong. Again, I loved it, but this episode was basically a deep dive, stream-of-consciousness, inconclusive fanfic beautifully written and somehow, miraculously, joyously made canon. LIKE WHOAH! I mean, there’s a reason fanfic is just that. It’s generally for a very niche crowd. This was just for Carol fans and still-patient Caryl fans. But hey, we were fed, my lovelies, WE WERE FED! So, yeah, I adored it. Now I mentioned that this was for Carol stans as opposed to Daryl stans and it is. That is not to say that showcasing Daryl wasn’t important because it was. Even though the scenes with Carol highlighted the Caryl aspect of it nicely, it was also very important to have the Daryl scenes to bring home the Carylness of it for two reasons: 1 By him giving her his knife and showing how much more work he had to do to achieve his goal, it was symbolic of how he and Carol work better together. 2. Being that he got another knife, he let her keep that one which he got from Leah. This is key because at the beginning of the episode, one of the two things he got from Leah (Dog) chose Carol. At the end of the episode, Daryl essentially gave to Carol that second thing, the knife, the only other connection he had to Leah. Therefore, by episode’s end, every connection to Leah that Daryl had was let go by choice. March 27, 2021 at 01:16PM
