I interpreted that scene as the writers reminding the audience why Daryl hasn’t been with anyone, why he has been alone for so long, while also showing him looking back to that acorn on the table, clearly thinking of what she said to him, of her. I know things are tense between them, but I feel they will resolve this quickly and begin to focus on finding and helping Lydia. After all, who better to track her than these two?
